Few regions have this many major-league teams within an hour's drive. Here's who plays where.
Premium seating, from courtside and club levels to suites, is sold directly by each team. For a group outing, ask the team's premium sales office about hospitality packages that include food and drink.
Golf: public, resort, and private
South Florida golf falls into three groups. Public and municipal courses take tee times from anyone and are the most affordable. Resort courses, such as those at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, are open to hotel guests and often to outside players. Private clubs require membership, which usually means an initiation fee plus annual dues.
Winter is peak season. Book early for weekend mornings from December through April, and play late afternoons in summer to avoid the worst of the heat.
On the water: booking a fishing charter
Offshore fishing is a South Florida signature. Charters leave from marinas up and down the coast, including Jupiter, Palm Beach Shores, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami.
- Choose your trip length. Half-day trips suit beginners and families. Full days go farther offshore for bigger fish.
- Ask what's included. Most charters supply rods, bait, and a Florida fishing license for everyone on board. Confirm before you book.
- Plan for the weather. Captains cancel for rough seas. Ask about their rescheduling policy.
- Tip the mate. Around 15 to 20 percent of the trip price is customary.
Padel and pickleball
Both sports have exploded across South Florida. Pickleball is played on small courts with paddles and a plastic ball, and many public parks now have courts. Padel is played in doubles on an enclosed glass court where the walls are in play, mostly at private and pay-to-play clubs.
Most clubs offer beginner clinics and paddle rentals, which is the easiest way to start.
